Steven B. Deitelzweig, MD

Dr. Steven Deitelzweig is Vice President of Medical Affairs, Chairman of Hospital Medicine, Assistant Program Director for Internal Medicine, staff physician in the Section of Vascular Medicine, and President of the medical staff at Ochsner Health System in New Orleans. In addition, he is Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine and a contributor to WDSU NewsChannel 6.

After earning his medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine, Dr. Deitelzweig completed a residency in internal medicine through Cornell University Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College and Graduate School of Medicine/North Shore University Hospital in New York. Subsequently, he completed fellowships in vascular medicine and hepatology through the Department of Internal Medicine at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans.

As a principal investigator or subinvestigator on numerous clinical trials, Dr Deitelzweig's current research interests focus on venous thromboembolism (VTE), low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH), direct thrombin inhibitors and other new anticoagulants, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (OPD), acute decompensated heart failure, and type 2 diabetes

An extensive lecturer, Dr Deitelzweig has presented regionally, nationally, and internationally on a variety of topics, such as heart failure, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, acute coronary syndrome, and anticoagulation. An accomplished author, he has been published in Annals of Pharmacotherapy, the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, Annals of Long-Term Care, Vascular Medicine, and the Ochsner Journal, among others.

Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and a member and fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Society for Vascular Medicine and Biology, Dr Deitelzweig is also a member of the Society for Hospital Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, among others. In addition, Dr Deitelzweig is Medical Director of the Hospice of Greater New Orleans.

The recipient of many honors and awards, Dr Deitelzweig has earned the George M. Jaffin Scholarly Activity Award for Excellence in Research.
