NEW ORLEANS -- She came to the Crescent City in December 2007 from the City of Brotherly Love. Rachel is excited to be in New Orleans during the rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. She says "There is an energy in New Orleans that cannot be denied!" And she is ready to taste what New Orleans cuisine has to offer.Rachel (Pfanner) Wulff earned her Masters in Broadcast Journalism from American University, after receiving her undergraduate degree in International Relations from California State University, Chico. Her jobs have taken her to many places. Her first on-air job was in Salisbury, Maryland where she covered Nor'Easters and learned the ins and outs of the crabbing and poultry industries. She also met her husband there-who was working as a videographer at that same station. From there Rachel became a weekend anchor/reporter in Toledo, Ohio, where she covered George W. Bush and John Kerry's many visits to the 'swing state' during the 2004 presidential race. But Rachel says one of the most tragic stories she covered was 'Tornado Sunday', when five people died after a freak line of funnel clouds touched down in early November.
Rachel worked as a reporter and anchor in Philadelphia for two years. She reported on a ring of body snatchers--doctors and funeral home directors charged with illegally harvesting tissue and bone from cadavers--then selling it to transplant banks nationwide. But one of the most fun stories was the Phillies 2007 playoff run. She is happy to leave the cold of the Northeast for the warmth of the Gulf, where golfing in January is no problem!Rachel's dedication to her job has earned her numerous awards, but it is her leadership in and outside of the newsroom that she is most proud of. Rachel is a former 4-H Diamond Star. The award was based on public speaking, project work and community service. Ever since then, Rachel has been mentoring 4-H youth and advisors.Over the years, Rachel has also volunteered for the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association, Susan G. Komen Foundation and various animal shelters and humane societies. She is excited to be working with Habitat for Humanity in the New Orleans area and the Green Project.Rachel and her husband live in New Orleans with their two cats, who keep them laughing.
