WDSU, NBC HD Programming On DirecTV

WDSU-TV announced that its high definition programming is now available to the customers of DirecTV in Southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the first time.

WDSU-TV’s digital signal has been unavailable over the air since Hurricane Katrina destroyed the station’s transmitter on August 29, 2005. “We have invested in the technical infrastructure to make this possible,” says Joel Vilmenay, WDSU-TV/DT president and general manager. “We have been working at all levels to make our high-definition content accessible to as many people possible and as fast as possible. It is all starting to come together now.”

The new digital programming is now available on DirecTV channel 6.1. If customers are having problems receiving the signal they should contact DirecTV customer service at 1-800-494-4388. Or if you would like to order DirecTV HD programming today call 1-888-777-2454

Currently, Charter Communications and DirecTV are the only providers of WDSU-TV’s HD content such as NFL Football, NBC prime time shows, and NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams to Southeast Louisiana.

Previously Cox Communications was the single provider of WDSU-TVs HD programming. However, Cox has since elected not to make it possible for their subscribers to receive the digital signal and no longer carries WDSU-TV’s or NBC’s HD content.
