LAFAYETTE, La. -- A store clerk at an Old Jefferson gun shop testified Thursday that he sold Vince Marinello a rare kind of bullets for his .38 revolver, and prosecutors say those bullets match those that killed Marinello's wife.Marinello, a former New Orleans broadcaster, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Mary Elizabeth Marinello. Prosecutors say he disguised himself, road a bike to a parking lot and waited for her. They say he shot her twice in the face.Alan Reese, who worked as a clerk at Elliot's Gun Shop in 2006, testified that Marinello came into the shop with an old .38 special revolver and asked whether it still worked. Reese said he test fired the gun and found it worked properly.
Marinello then asked for the best kind of bullets, and Reese sold him a special kind of Nyclad bullets that weren't available anywhere else in the New Orleans area, Reese testified. Also Thursday, the fourth day of the murder trial, two prosecution witnesses testified to seeing a "scruffy-looking" man trying to take a bicycle out of a white vehicle near the scene of the murder.Testimony in the trial began with an employee of the Vieux Carre Hair Shop telling the jury that he sold Marinello a mustache just before the shooting.James Rizzuto testified that after selling Marinello the mustache, he asked him whether he also needed a beard, and Rizzuto said that Marinello replied, "I already have one."
