A New Orleans reserve police officer was killed on Saturday in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 10.

The crash happened on the interstate in Oak Harbor in St. Tammany Parish just after midnight.

A 1999 New Orleans police car, driven by 74-year-old Officer Curtis Jones, was traveling eastbound on I-10.

Police said that, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered to the right and exited the roadway. Once off the roadway, the car traveled for approximately 149 feet and crashed into a tree.

Jones, of Slidell, was transported to Northshore Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police said Jones was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol or drug use is not suspected in the crash.

Blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.
