NEW ORLEANS -- A newly-elected state representative said he's going to file papers to impeach Orleans Parish District Attorney Eddie Jordan.

State Rep.-elect Cameron Henry, who represents parts of Riverbend, said he's working with state Sen. Steve Scalise on the issue.

"What he has done to that office is downright embarrassing, and I think they have to get to another stage -- and he's not the person to get them there," Henry said.

A robbery suspect who stopped at Jordan's house after a car wreck is also suspected of being involved in the shooting of a New Orleans police officer, Chief Warren Riley confirmed.

Jordan's live-in girlfriend got a ride back to New Orleans from Baton Rouge with the suspect, Elton Phillips.

It's not the first time state leaders have tried to take action against the district attorney. In July, when Jordan dropped charges against a murder suspect in a high-profile case, state Rep. Cedric Richmond looked into impeaching Jordan.

However, it never happened.

Henry won't be able to file impeachment papers until the start of the 2008 session. But he said Scalise, who he's replacing, may look into the issue during a special session on ethics that Gov.-elect Bobby Jindal is expected to call before year's end.

"This affects all of us in Orleans, Jefferson. Crime takes its toll on rebuilding," Henry said.
