NCAA Game Summary - Arkansas At South Carolina

(Sports Network) - Stephen Garcia threw for 71 yards and a touchdown and ran for 35 yards and another score, as the South Carolina Gamecocks notched a 34-21 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks in a SEC matchup at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Chris Smelley also saw some time behind center for the Gamecocks (7-3, 4-3 SEC), completing 9-of-19 pass attempts for 148 yards and a score. Both quarterbacks relied on Kenny McKinley, who caught seven passes for 130 yards and a score.

The Razorbacks (4-6, 1-5) were led by quarterback Casey Dick, who completed 16-of-26 passes for 217 yards and two TDs. However, Dick also threw three interceptions and was sacked six times. Jarius Wright led the receiving corps with two catches for 82 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown.

The Gamecocks scored on their first possession of the game, as Garcia raced 14 yards for a touchdown to give the Gamecocks a 7-0 lead.

Minutes later, SC extended its led to 10-0 on a 54-yard field goal by Ryan Succop.

Arkansas finally got on the board at the 9:24 mark of the second quarter, when Dick threw a 70-yard touchdown strike to Wright to make it a 10-7 contest.

The Gamecocks answered on their next possession when Smelley hooked up with Jared Cook for a 66-yard touchdown.

SC made it a 20-7 game early in the third quarter, when Succop drilled a 37- yard field goal.

The Razorbacks bounced back late in the third quarter, when Dick hit Mitchell Bailey for a four-yard touchdown pass.

Once again the Gamecocks responded, as Garcia hooked up with McKinley from 15 yards out to give SC a 27-14 lead.

Mike Davis added the finishing touches for the Gamecocks, ripping off a 13- yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter.

Brandon Barnett scored on a one-yard touchdown run for the Razorbacks late in the fourth, but it would not be enough as the Gamecocks walked away with a 34-21 victory.

The South Carolina defense held Arkansas in check, limiting the Razorbacks to just 255 yards of total offense, including a miserable 54 yards on the ground.
